Description

The Col de Joux Verte is situated to the south of the Lake Leman and might be less famous than Avoriaz, the ski-station at the top of the climb. Morzine is the well-known starting place of the south side of the climb. The first kilometers are pretty easy but then it goes up all of a sudden, gradully to over 11%. Luckily, you have passed the most difficult hairpin part already after 6 km. The next six are do-able, climbing towards Avoriaz. About two km before the ski-station, you reach the top.

The Col de la Joux Verte is situated in Rhone-Alpes and belongs to the Alps . Starting from Morzine, the Col de la Joux Verte ascent is 12.5 km long. Over this distance, you climb 800 heightmeters. The average percentage thus is 6.4 %.

Story by GRANT STEEL from horley, United Kingdom, submitted on 28/08/2012
Started this route from our accomodation in Le Boit up through Montriond past the lake, which is stunning, this is where it really ramps up, the hairpin bends are very close together, so its difficult to get a rythmn going & bit of break! Whilst im not in the best shape of my life, I found this really hard, having done Alpe D''Huez, Ventoux, Stelvio. I had to stop for a few moments to catch my breath. It levels out after Les Lindarets - mind the goats in the road, really! After the ski lifts it levels out & becomes quite pleasant before a bit of a climb near the summit. Stopped at the cafe for a coffee & a delicious piece of peach tart. The climb took me 1hr 44. Then descended in just under 15 mins, roads were nice & quiet. Cooled off in the Lac de Montriond, then headed home. Great afternoon.
