I did the tour (Allos, Champs, Cayolle) and that''s a perfect end for it! You finish with a long and scenic road near a river, between cliffs! beautifull. If you''re not staying in Barcelonette, you can park your car at the begining of the col d''allos, and you''re on a perfect to start directly allos, and to be back to your car directly at the end of the cayolle descent! Also, check the days, but the col d''allos is closed to traffic, and reserved for bikers only some morning in summer! Can be an appreciable upgrade in your experience on that road! Enjoy

Climbing from this side is MUCH harder than the other side (from Barcelonette). We did the famous 3 climbs tour : Barcelonette, col Allos, col des Champs and col de la Cayolle. Fantastic ride of about 125km and 3400m altitude gain. If you stay in Barcelonette, this is the tour to make.

The Southern climb is very scenic. I remember some day in 1999, when I bike this col as the third one of the trip Col DAllos - col de Champs - Col de la Cayolle as if it is yesterday: man, what can it be hot, problably because this climb is not too far from Nice. The col itself is not too steep, but do not underestimate this col (as I did)! This year biked it a couple times, everytime enjoyed it very much, and indeed the heat was on again (early August 2009).
