My wife and I climbed Vence August 12 2013 during our honeymoon and we quite liked it. We started from our hotel in Nice and turned north in Cagnes Sur Mer towards Vence via JFK and M36/M2.

The road tilted upward on Ave Des Alpes and never relented until the col in Vence. It was blistering hot so to ride was a bit tiresome. There is zero relief from the blistering sun even early in the morning as we did,so have enough fuel and water on hand. The Col itself was a bit underwhelming. The descent of course was awesome! We''d do it again and recommend it to anyone.

Stayed in cannes for a week in November and did some rides during the week. Climbed the col de vence in ovember this year with a nice 18 Celcius. Started at Cagnes and tried to find the way up to vence. There is a busy road to Vence. From Vence the climb really starts at the bikeshop. The climb is steady and consistent. Not much variations. Very low traffic during the climb. The views are no really spectacular. If views are what you are looking for... go to the Madone;-) The top isnt really spectacular. The way down can be;-) It''s fast if you want.

I give it three stars as it is a long climb from Cagnes, but it''s not too steep. During the summer it may be a killerclimb though.

I rode the Col de Vence (not all the way from Cagnes-sur-Mer but rather from Vence where we stayed) 6 or 7 times this summer. It is a really nice climb and the views are pretty decent (although not that ""fancy"" on the col itself). The climb does not vary much in percentages, which makes it easy to find your own pace. Beware that during summer it can be pretty hot (on my last trip up my bike computer read 41 degrees Celsius at the top!). Descending down to Vence is a blast as the road is really good with not too many switchbacks and traffic is light (I think I met a total of 5 cars going up/down) - but consider going down around the mountain (either looping left through Gorges du Loup or right going through Bézaudun - Bouyon and Le Broc) as the views really are quite fantastic. If you come from Cagnes-sur-Mer you can fill your bidon at the round-about where the climb starts in Vence (theres also a decent (not fancy) bike shop 100 meters up the road on the right side if you need anything).
