Beautiful pass, small road, almost no cars. The steep part starts at the village Py. There two very steep parts which I climbed with 34/27 and was glad I had this combination. Do not miss on your left hand side the Pic du Canigou at km 16. Great fun going down too!

This col is in the Pyrenées Orientales, department 66. The climb proper starts above Sahorre but if you start anywhere on the N116 such as Prades or Villefranche, you will be climbing all the way. This is one of the hardest cols in the area and one of the hardest I have done anywhere. There are two very steep sections above the village of Py. For me this was riding on the pedals and wrestling with the bike to keep momentum using a 39/25 combination. The road is a dead end arriving in Mantet after a short descent. The views are good especially of nearby Mt Canigou.
