Do not underestimate this one. The profile is clear and the kilometer marks at the side of the road will warn you again. After you reach Larrau (from where the other beast, the Port de Larrau, starts) you descend to the real start of the climb. What follows are 800 altitude meters in 10 km, unfortunately not evenly split. Gradually, it starts getting steeper and steeper, till you find yourself not climbing anymore, but pushing. Several kilometers go at 10+% and don't be surprised to see kilometer marks of 12,5% and 13%. The last kilometers at just under 10% are a relief. A few flatter meters make that you can recover just a bit before you reach the top across the corner. You won't forget this one!

The Col Bagargui is situated in Aquitaine. This climb belongs to the Pyrenees. Starting from Eastside via Larrau, the Col Bagargui ascent is 21.2 km long. Over this distance, you climb 1017 heightmeters. The average percentage thus is 4.8 %.

What a devil! Completely under-rated climb. It''s very steep 5-6 km from the top and only the last few hundred meters will let you get back to life. 34-29 is not really enough but all I had - and I''m i good shape. This was the last climb on a tour through the Pyrenees and by far the most challenging, leaving Tourmalet and other classic climbs behind as nice little hills.

I rode this Col in the 2003 L''etape du Tour;the Cote de Larrau was a seperate 3rd Catergory Climb, followed by the Bargargui itself. The 3 km stretch shown in red above was a real brute; I recall the km marker boards in the verge declaring the average gradient for the next 1000 metres as 13 % and it was much steeper in places.I will never forget it!!
