This climb is relatively easy, in that the hardest part of climb is near the bottom, and is only steep for a short while.

After leaving Cheddar, and passing the last building, the road turns round to the right. As it bends back round to the left, this is the steepest part of the climb. I think it peaks at 16%, but this is only for 50 meters at most. With the corner, it''s pretty tough going, but once that corner is done, the rest of the climb feels much easier.

I was knackered by the time I reached the top, but more seasoned riders will find this climb straightforward.

Cheddar gorge is a wonderful natural sight. The town Cheddar is at foot of the gorge. Youll dodge the pedestrians but they soon disappear. The climb is initially steady and youll marvel at the cliff edges. An S bend of a few hundred metres presents the only steep gradient where you need to get out of saddle but soon the gorge becomes less dramatic and youll be flipping up a few gears and settling in to a strong cadence to the the top of the Mendips plateau. Great coming down it at circa 30 mph and sweeping bends.
