valverde lives about 15k from this climb and uses it to test himself prior to big objectives ,he passed me like a ""green bullet "" at end of may then went on to win the dauphine de libre ,i tried to catch him but when i was 4 k from top he was on his way back down but had time to exchange a ""hola""
My personal climb rating:

climbing this side is easier than from aledo,as this side has beeen recently re-surfaced.there is a flat section after about 10k and a cafe (not always open ive just been up twice in week and closed on both days mon/fri) when you get to 1200m callado bermejo you can either go on to army post at top 1589m or straight down the other side to aledo/totana .there is another cafe at bottom of descent that has been open most times ive dont the climb ,failing that you can stop in aledo (really pretty town) or at the statue of christ and church that has cafe and good tapas or go all the way down to totana and have a coffee in the square.do the climb in the week and i guarantee you wont see a soul.great area for cycling
