To make the most of this climb, start at the Sieur de Mont entrance of Acadia National Park and ride the Loop Road along the coast. You can park your car at the entrance in the lot. It is highly recommended to ride early morning as traffic can be heavy in the late morning and afternoon during the summer. If you begin by 6:30am the road is yours! The Loop Road adds 200+ feet to your climb beginning at Otter Cove. The ride along the coast and the climb is beautiful and you will meet cyclists on the way up and down. After descending, turn right and follow the Loop Road back to Sieur De Monts entrance to complete the Loop. The ride from the top of the Mountain to the Sieur De Mont entrance is all down hill and a lot of fun. I would not attempt this climb after 8:30am in the summer as car traffic can be very heavy. People are not paying attention to the road and there are several blind switch backs. I have witnessed several close calls and traffic can back up at the top with the limited parking available. Riding early you will see very few cars in the park.

Beautiful ride. Just hard enough so that you know that you''ve done a decent climb, but not so hard as to wipe you out. Awesome views - just amazing. Would only go up pretty early in the morning though, as the traffic picks up around 9:00 AM and stays pretty heavy thereafter. Also, check the wind speed as the headwinds can be worse than the climb.

Very very nice climb and downhill. Very nice view going up, at the top and very exiting when going down.
