Really nice ride. Llandwyn is actually at the other end of Lake Vyrnwy from the start of the climb, so the first part of the route is flat. Its then up and down for a while, before you hit the open moorland and a mixture of steepish upward gradients.
There are some very steep bits, particularly the very last few hundred metres, but the fantastic views make up for it. My triple with 12-27 was more than adequate, even after a traumatically rain-sodden morning.
The route on to Bala from the top is pleasant, but I reckon climbing the pass from that side would be less scenic.
