Bushcombe Lane is one tough climb, one of the hardest in Gloucestershire (and even further afield!). There aren''t many tougher and it most certainly doesn''t deserve a 2/5 difficulty!

It''s a gentle start but after a few hundred metres starts to steepen quickly. Once you veer a bit left it kicks up and you start climbing properly and then it basically gets steeper and steeper. The houses thin out, there''s a slight right hander before going back left and the trees come over the road - this is the nearly 30% bit and can be really slippery if wet or in the autumn with leaves. Get up this bit and the really tough bits are done and there''s a nice ride up over the common with just a few lumpy bits.

Don''t just take my word for it have a look at www. cyclinguphill.com/cleeve-hill-bushcombe-lane/

A hard climb 30% + in places! makes Cleeve Hill climb feel like a nursery slope.

Ive ridden it 3 times this year as part of hills session including Gambles Lane, Post Office Lane and Stockwell Lane. All go up the side of Cleeve Hill from Woodmancote and Bishops Cleeve. If you want to test your climbing ability you wont get much more extreme in this neck of hte woods!
