I climbed monte catria on wednesday may 23 07 while on vacation in umbria. I started from the town of Chiasema ...temp in the high 80s...strong winds swirling...which I understand is not unusual for may...toughclimb because of heat and consistant 7-8% grade ...suffered and survived... used 34x27 gear ratio...6.5 miles is a grind but the view was spectcular!!! next is the copper triangle in colorado in august That should be easy!!!?????? arrivederci tutti!

Part of a month of cycling in Italy in May, 06..climbed Catria from Chiasema on Sat. May 13th..the day the "tappa sette", stage seven of the Giro....the "boys" summitted Catria from the other direction...I averaged 5.8 miles per hour using a 36-27 chainring /cog combination. Very stimulating descent...also climbed Passo del San Pelligrino on the 26th, when the Giro stage 19 was there..Im a 56 yr old from U.P. of Mich., where it is 10 degree F right now..plan to ride today, anyway..ended 2006 with 7240 biking miles.....planning to climb Haleakala, Mauai, Hawaii, (36.2 miles) in March(if the altitude doesnt kill me)...summit is at 10,000 ft.
